I haven't the slightest clue as to how to install a hotfix, but I will try the F8 idea for now and post what happens.

I just attempted the F8 solution...I tried "last known configuration"...it went right back to the BSOD. I also tried again using "safe mode"...same result.
I'm really curious as to why the recovery disks won't work. HP told me that the disks would fix any problem. Of course this is coming from the people that would only have a conversation about the problem if I paid for either an extended warranty or by-the-hour tech support starting at $59/hr.
