BSOD and System Recovery

After I allowed my PC* to auto update, I got the BSOD upon reboot. I called HP and they were no help...out of warranty. I ordered the recovery disks and nothing happens...right back to the BSOD with the following error message:

*** STOP: 0x0000C1F5 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I followed the directions that came with the recovery disks exactly. I simply can't afford the 60-$100/hour service charges everyone wants around town.
