As for the running hot issue, give the laptop a good clean inside. If you are not comfortable opening it up get a can of compressed air and shoot some thru the vents. Make sure you blow most if not all of the dust out.

As for the touchpad, uninstall the drivers in Device Manager. Also check ADD/REMOVE if there are other touchpad driver related programs. If you do (i.e. Synaptics, etc..), uninstall it also then reboot. Let Windows recognize the touchpad. If needed download the touchpad drivers for your model.

By the way, what Sony Vaio model is this?
