Thermal Paste for my HP Pavilion dv9207us

Hi guys, I came to realize one thing that HP laptops tend to run HOT AS HELL even on idle. SpeedFan (don't know if it's accurate) shows that my temperatures idle range from 50-60ºC, and when it's under stress like gaming and processing etc it can go up to 80ºC. The bottom and top get very hot and is very hard to set on my lap, and even extended periods of typing can start to burn my palms. I just went out and bought the ANTEC Formula 5 Silver Thermal Compound. Looks like an injection needle but fatter. I have never opened my CPU compartment of my laptop before and I don't know how and where to apply the thermal paste. By the way, is the one I got good enough? Cost me $10. Any help appreciated, thanks!!
