Inspiron 600m won't turn on

Hi,

A couple of days ago I was using my computer and turned it off with no problems, in the usual way. When I went to turn it on again, it simply would not do so. There are no indicator lights on or flashing. My battey has been dead for some time, so I have been running completely off the power supply, but the power supply still works correctly. I was able to try it out on another laptop because it is universal. I'm not sure what happened. I read some threads, on this forum and others, about a loose connection to the motherboard, but I am not savvy enough to know how to check that. If it is the motherboard, I'd hate to spend lots of money to fix it when I can buy a new basic computer for a reasonable price. Anyone have any ideas? Is it worth fixing?

Thanks for your help!
