Both of those cords should work. I'd recommend getting a case like these here

They let you hook the HDD up to your USB port and the case protects the HDD. Most cases allow for the HDD to be put in and taken out of the case easily, but read some of the reviews and decide which would be best for you.
HOWEVER if you are planning on hooking your PS3 HDD to read the data on it, it can't be done (I don't think) I'm pretty sure that PS3 uses its own file system that can't be read by any windows or mac OS, so you'd be wasting you time if thats what you want to do.
You'd have to reformat the HDD to a FAT or NTFS (for windows) file system to be able to save data to it, but then if you wanted to put it back in your PS3 you'd have to reformat it back to the PS3 file system for it to work again.
EDIT: Oh, if you do go for the case make sure you get one with the SATA interface (if that is what the PS3 HDD is)
