Just installed VNC 4 (Enterprise) on my laptop and a remote desktop, connecting over the Internet. Both machines use XP SP2 Home. VNC works flawlessly EXCEPT for the logon user/password ordeal that I barely got thru after several attempts... and I'm not sure how.
The confusion: in setting up the server and viewer, we opted for a password. (There is no username option. Just te option to enter a password and confirm it.) Then, when I ticked to have admin privleges, it asked for another password, so we used the same one. Again, no username.
So she opened her server and I started the Viewer (we are states apart but were talking on the phone as we did this), and the Viewer asked me for a username and password.
WHICH username and password?? I assumed it was the password we set in VNC... which doesn't have a username. The username was filled in with "Me" which is the default login for XP.
So I left "Me" and filled in the VNC password. I got a message they didn't match. So I erased the "Me" and just sent the VNC password... same thing... and over and over...
Now from some research I did it seems VNC wants my XP credentials?? Or the credentials of the server I'm signing into? Or what?? Neither her computer or mine is setup with users. We are the only ones who use our computers. We don't have passwords setup to boot into Windows.
This program worked so easily and flawlessly until this step, which SHOULD have been the easiest thing!
Does anyone know what the heck VNC wants???
