You mention that a friend found a virus on your computer, but not what steps he took to get rid of it. I've never had drivers "go" as you've described, and would not be surprised if you're still having malware issues. At the top right of your screen (First Steps) is a link to steps to follow in order to get help with this sort of issue. Good luck.
