I think you are looking in the wrong place for the updates?
Go into the Control panel (Classic view) and select Windows updates - its an icon right at the bottom. Over on the left, in the blue panel, select "View update history"
A list should come up immediately, showing all the updates. Under Status it show id the updates were succesful.
