The NFO file contains no information as it reports that WMI (Windows Management INstrumentation) is not available. Do you have any system serices disabled?

Also - the event viewer does contain much more than application information. There should be dozens (50+ ?) of event logs that contain a ton of valuable information.

p.s. you would be very surprised at the amount of items that could have accumualated in your system since January 2007. I have seen 6 month old systems that have similar symptoms from excessive startup or logon programs. A sure item to look at is the usage of the page file, which can easily be seen in the Task Manager or the Performance Moniter. The msinfo32 would be a start - were you able to view the data as it appeared in the viewer prior to saving it?

All of this, hardware issue(s) - the data bus you mentioned, notwithstanding.
