There is also another way, But only if your HD manufacture has the tools available to do it.
I know Maxtor and WD both have tools on their website, or in the big box packaging. I also believe Seagate does too. This allows you to copy bit for bit the contents of one drive to another. I just did such a thing last weekend. Moving my XP install from a drive that was starting to fail to a larger HD that I partitioned to put windows in a space of its own and reinstalled my programs and new ones onto the other. Using the manufacturer's tools to do the copy, IMHO is better than a 3rd party application, no offense to the authors of those apps.
