Model#: WD1200U017-003

At first when I plugged it up it automatically popped up with options on how to open the files it contained. From one day to another it no longer shows anything. The drivers are installed and Vista reads that it is connected to the USB port but I cannot access it.

I've browsed here and there and I've read that it needs to be 'formatted'. Why wasn't this something that popped up when I first installed it? - Was this my fault?

If so, can I still salvage the information that is in it?

Please help me with this!
