Ye, trying to clean system from viruses could be hard work but experienced too... But, it is way to better to do a clean install if you do not have any important data on HDD [you can always back up data though]...
And your PC will act as a totally new one with fresh install :)
I personally would try to clean it because you can always learn something and you can not make any damage to hardware, you can only make damage to software but there comes reinstall again hehe...
