Also, if you feel up to it, you could insert your xp disk, don't let it autoplay.
Press Start, go to Accessories and Command Prompt and type in the following command,
sfc/scannow
this verifies every system file on your pc and replaces any bogus ones........................although after that you need to vist windows update and update all your files again.
