I took a look at the two sites you directed me too. both suggested that zone alarm could cause conflicts. I was installed on the machine but not any more as I just unistalled it. The results is I am responding back to you via the problem machine with firefox.

Since I unistalled zone alarm (I am not sure it was active) my mind is pondering firewall protection. I am not sure if the router is providing firewall (I suspect not as I haven't read indicating that is does) and I am not sure if XP is or how effective it is. I don't really know even how to check that.

Any thoughts?
