Eclipse2003,

You've got two issues;

1) The inability to ping the Windows PCs from Unix

2) The inability to see Shared Windows Printers

One possibility is that you have firewall software running on XP that's blocking access from either ALL pings or the network that the Unix PCs are running on. In this case, you need to alter the firewall/internet security software on the XP side to allow access from the Unix network.

The other possibility is that you don't have Windows SMB support installed on your UNIX/Linux system. SMB support allows you to access shared Windows Networking printers, files, folders via UNIX/Linux.

Your problem could be a combination of BOTH of these issues.

Reply with more detail about the Unix/Linux you're using as well as any firewall/internet security programs installed on your PC.
