Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!
To set up the public folder file sharing between the two Vista systems, perform the following:
START | Network | click on Network and Sharing Center (up top) | Under the heading - Sharing and Discovery - turn on the various settings starting with Network Discovery.
Should you want to share additional files besides the Public folder, do the following:
START | Computer | go to the folder/file in question, right-click on it | Properties | Sharing | click on Share - this will allow sharing with the "Everyone" group - meaning anyone connected to your router that has the applicable permission settings.
