Alrighty. to answer jamiemac2005's questions:

yes I have 2 other computers on the same network that are connected wirelessly. they are both just normal desktop pcs with windows xp. These connect fine.

i dont think I have a firewall on my router.. but not sure how to check that. Not sure if it filters addresses or how to check that either.

vista says that it is completly connected. I havnt tried connecting to other networks as they need netwrk keys to get in.

to answer johnwill's questions:

I am located in Australia. ISP is optusnet. download speed is 4.2 Mbps upload speed is 256Kbps.
Modem is a Motorola SB4200 SURFboard cable modem.
Router is a D-link Airplus G+ wireless router (Dl-624+)
connection is wireless. I dont think encryption is used.
my laptop is a hp pavillion entertainment dv9000. This laptop has vista on it. Both IE and firefox dont work on it. no other computers on my network are affected.

basiclly my issue is that my laptop tells me that I am connected to my network, but I am unable to access the internet through firefox ot IE. I used to be able to do this. The only errors I get are through the browser, which gives the basic ie cannot find this page, you might have typed the address wrong etc. I have tried connecting it with cables, but it didnt work.
