Would he need to burn them to disk? -- depends what is available to you. some of them can fit on a 1.44MB floppy drive or you can use USB flash drives or burn them to a blank CD.
And just get them from HP's site? -- yes start with HP website. you can GOOGLE also. Just remember that in some laptop models, you may not have XP drivers at all. So searching and hunting for them may take forever.
