hardware problem causing very slow windows installation
good morning everyone!
i have a rather mysterious problem here at my hands, maybe one of you can help me out.
the computer in question has the following config:
athlon 4000+ cpu
2x1 gb ram
250 gb SATA hdd
asus a8nsli deluxe mainboard
the trouble started out with the computer freezing up on boot when it got to loading the raid drivers (which werent used anyway) so i deactivated them. from now on windows xp dd boot, but at painstakingly slow speed (20 minutes+). i assumed a corrupt windows installation, secured the data and formatted. the new xp installation took forever too (3 hours+) and the same problem occured afterwards. i ran some hardware diagnostics and the hdd showed errors on the smart selftest. so i replaced it with a brandnew one but the problem remained. next i ran diagnostics on the ram (memtest, 8 passes, no errors) and tried using each ram bar seperately. no change in results. i then used toolstar and eurocheck to run diagnostics on the motherboard and CPU but everything checked out there too. so im really at my wits end.. im not sure if this is the right board to post it in but i assume it must be cpu and/or motherboar related.. and ideas from you guys?
edit: i also booted a bunch of preinstalled environments from dvd, which also took very very long.. if that indicates anythign to anyone..
