Hey everyone! I'm new to these forums, so I'll give a quick intro.

I'm Keilan, I'm in grade 12 and beginning university next year as a Math/Computer Science major (With plans to go to grad school for one of those two). I know just about nothing in terms of programming and that's pretty much why I'm here.

Is there any best programming language to learn? Basically I'd like the one that would be most relevant to either game programming or just the most common language for general software programming.

I'd also like to know what software is required to get started. I've heard some languages require only notepad and a compiler (which still leaves me unsure of how to get a compiler).
