Re: Router - connectivity for some- not others
ash7,
Sorry that you had to go through all of that. Unfortunately - there was no way to know that your D-Link router was bad since it was working with all of your other devices. If there was a bad port on it - you could have tried swapping devices to different ports. As I understand it, your problem was with a wireless connection - so swapping Ethernet ports wouldn't apply.
D-Link products are very inexpensive and have lots of nice features - unfortunately, it's been my personal experience that their wired & wireless routers are notoriously flaky and unpredictable. They'll work fine - then for no reason - something will stop working. Usually power resetting them fixes this, and in some cases, factory resetting them via the reset button fixes these problems. BIOS upgrades on these devices, for me, have caused more problems then they've fixed.
Given the fact that all of your other devices connected to that router were working fine - it seemed like an issue with the network config on your Acer laptop - NOT with the router.
I personally would avoid D-Link. Go with Linksys, Apple AirPort or Netgear. Others will say D-Link is great - but I've had NOTHING but problems with their routers.
