I am a near complete ignoramus about computers.

Yesterday, my computer was so slow, and a friend suggested that I delete all the temp files--yikes there were about 1500 of them! Then I discovered four that would not delete: DFA828.tmp, hpodvd09, hphtra07, perflib_perf. Googling those things got me here. I am up to step 3 of the 5 steps. I notice in the log that none of those files are mentioned?

Should I complete all 5 steps?

I use firefox. Do spyware blaster and IE-spyad help me?

I am a professor and I'm embarrassed to say that not all of my documents are backed up. Feeling nervous and confused.

Btw, computer seems to be running pretty well with all those temp files deleted, and a defragged hard drive.
