[SOLVED] Just got motherboard replace; audio does not work; Device Manager has no ?'s
I called up the place that replaced the motherboard, and one of their people went through many things with me...we came to some possible conclusions, although none are for sure I suppose. It doesn't seem to be a problem with the sound card, as there is nothing under Device Manager, under the Sound devices category, that has a yellow ? mark/exclamation point next to it (there is an Unknown Device category, but that's not under the Sound category obviously....and I think it has to do with me connecting a Firewire cable to a port on the back of my PC recently to try and transfer some DV video camera footage..which did not work, and gave me some message about my device malfunctioning..I guess I digress, but that just in case it could be a factor in this audio problem).
Youtube audio does not work, neither does an MP3 audio file from my hard drive. Nothing is muted under the Volume thing (that I get to by clicking on the speaker icon next to the Date/Time), except for Microphone and Auxillary.
One thing I should maybe mention is that, before this new motherboard was installed, I had two sound device drivers or managers installed, I think....one was for the Creative SB X-Fi Audio, and the other was called Realtek something. I didn't really mean to install the Realtek one originally, but it was on a CD that came with my PC in the first place, and I had thought it was important...anyway, since then I had to have either one or the other selected as my Audio device, and I'm not positive, but I think it was the Realtek one. The thing is, now I don't see any trace of the Realtek device/drivers/whatever remaining. No icon down by the Date/Time, like I think there used to be, and it is not listed on that screen where I can select an audio device. Only SB X-Fi Audio.
I've had problems with audio before, including a problem similar to this one....I seem to remember a fairly simple solution...I cannot recall it, though... =/
