Re: Restore and RAID

First and foremost the drive as a raid must be "ACTIVE"
you had to erase and recreate the raid in your bios of the motherboard or raid card. If you have both and your using the opposite to run the raid, then that won't work unless the chipset is identical.

Raids are very tricky as you need a special driver for the OS to boot your system let alone other programs outside of windows to see it as a full drive.

When I had my raid, I could not use norton ghost to make my image, I had to use trueimage or something like that from another company. It gave me a head ache. But make sure you boot from cd, flash, floppy to a program in dos with access to your newly created raid drive and first verify the partition is primary and "active"

second go to your motherboard bios and make sure the raid config has been updated to the new one as the first bootable drive or second after cdrom, etc.

A couple of tips to try. Hollar at us if you need more assistance.

I had a problem with one of my two Raid0 hard disk. Fortunately I've maid a backup with driveimage xml on an external drive.

I then buyed two new hard disks to make a RAID1 system. (I think to work with Raid0 is highly dangerous ) I configured the raid1 with the Intel storage manager tool and then partitionned and formated the disk with the BartPE live CD. The partition was made active, of course.

I then restored all my old configuration with driveimage. Restoration ran OK but... when I want now to start my system it seems that he can't find the boot. The system stop after the RAID control a few moment and then reboot again and again.

Question: Is it possible to restore a backup made from a Raid0 system to a Raid1 system? Or is it something special to do to make the partition bootable?

Thanks in advance for any answer.
