Thanks for your reply. That sounds like a serious problem.

I am able to access safe mode and safe mode with networking support (I am using the machine in safe mode to access this forum now).

I have followed the link you kindly posted but can't see any reference to the hot-key you mentioned. It just seems to be a CNet review of the Travelmate 8215wlmi and although I've read it, it didn't seem to mention how to reset to factory settings.

Hi katiesam. . .

From the link - 3rd paragraph. . .

When opened up you'll notice that the keyboard and control design is very basic, barring the peculiar banana-shaped key layout, which is designed to ensure a comfortable and more ergonomic typing position. Above the keyboard you'll find an Acer hotkey that acts like your own personal Superman, rushing a range of preloaded support, performance and recovery tools to the fore for instant system management.
Well, there is the recovery option, but ...

I know that when I read fast, I tend to miss a word or two... but I missed that entire sentence from your opening statement in the first post... apologies.

This means there are options... what would you like to do? I will be happy to go through the memory dump files along with various reports to see what I can find out. I'll need the memory dump files c:\windows\minidump. a Belarc Advisor report saved in MHT format, a msinfo32 file (system information) saved in NFO format - START | type msinfo32 | right-click msinfo32.exe | run as admin | ~10 sec report viewer will appear | save as NFO file, and the best for last - Event Viewer logs - all of them - c:\windows\system32\winevt\logs\*.evtx. Then zip them up - you may need more than 1 zip file - split them - Please see my PM. I'll be back later today/tonight.

It is, of course, your choice... however - I would simply ask - what if this is something that surfaces again post-Vista re-format?

Bye for now. . .
