If you opened the document as an attachment for your Hotmail account, it should be saved in your temporary internet folder somewhere. Open your browser and go into HISTORY. View by order visited today. Hopefully you'll find it somewhere in there.
NOT a good idea to launch MS Word DOC files directly from Internet links if you're making changes to these files. You should always immediately do a File, Save As, then name and locate the file in a known location (i.e. My Documents).
Also, make sure your MS Word Auto-Save option is turned on
