Question Re Meaning Of "realtek"
Hello:
I did a complete windows recovery on an old computer of mine that is running Windows 2001 XP, Service Pack 2. I've got it up and running now, reloaded all my programs and installed virus protection. We have a high speed wireless internet connection through a local ISP that is shared between this computer and a computer in an adjacent room via a wireless router. What I am confused about is this: After completing the windows recovery, I expected I would have to reload the software for the router in order to re-establish the wireless internet connection. However, after I did the recovery, I found that I still did have a working connection, but what I can't figure out is, when I went in to look at my "Network Connections" instead of it listing the name of my high speed ISP, it said "Realtek". I have never heard of this name before and when I did a google search it made some reference to this being some sort of errant connection. Is this anything I need to worry about (since I do have an internet connection). Since I don't recognize the name "Realtek" I'm worried if my computer's security is at risk. If I need to eliminate this and put it back to the wireless connection that I had before the windows recovery, i.e., showing the name of my ISP under "Network Connections", how do I accomplish this? (Note: When I did try to re-load the router software, it acted as though it didn't need to be re-loaded, like it was already configured.)Thanks everyone for taking the time to read this and for any feedback.
