Wndows XP Pro Startup Problem

Hi,This problem recently started.I turn on my computer and it stops at the first screen with the message "Disk Boot Failure,Insert System Disk and press Enter. However I pressed Enter by chance without any Disk in the machine and it automatically started loading Windows properly. And appears to be working OK although Internet Explorer seems slower.
At some point in the intial stages of this problem the Found New Hardware tool told me it had found Multimedia Audio Controller.I accidentally clicked on "don,t show this message again" so I can,t see it now.I,ve been searching for a solution on the net and checked Device Manager which shows Multimedia Audio Controller under other devices with a question mark and an exclamation mark.It says it is enabled but has no drivers.Location PCI bus 0, device 2, function 7.The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).Of course I don,t know if this has anything to do with the problem.I have Soundblaster Live Soundcard and a Gaming Video Card.I,m using Norton Antivirus. The computer has 1GB Ram.I,m not very knowledable about computers but have a keen interest and can follow directions well.I hope somebody can help?
