Recovery failed

I have a HP Pavilion dv9500t that is less than a year old. It has 2GB of RAM and a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo (i hope I got that right) processor. It came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. I upgraded it to Vista Business a few months ago. Later I discovered that I wanted the media features in Home Premium, so I contacted HP online chat. They said that in order to restore Home Premium I needed to put the recovery CD in the optical drive and restart the computer. This I did. Files load, the computer automatically restarted from time to time, and I even got to see the Home Premium desktop now and again.

About midway through the process, the computer ejected the CD and asked me to insert any supplemental discs that had come with the computer. Because I hadn't received any, I clicked Cancel as I was instructed to. The machine carried on loading more software, and at the end of the process, I got a message saying that recovery was complete. Then the computer restarted itself and this time said that the recovery had failed.

I have had to forcibly shut down the computer by holding the I/O button down because the only options I was offered were to review the details of the failure, which had something to do with a "setup timeout" or to "retry," neither of which I wanted to do having retried already several times.

Can anybody tell me what the problem is and, most of all, what I can do to fix it?

Many thanks,

Bruce
