WD MyBook II
First, let me say any help is unbelievably appreciated.
I bought a 1TB MyBook about an hour ago, and as time went on, it started acting up. It would do things such as make that odd dinging sound in Windows when I plugged it in, or not be seen by Windows unless I plugged it in and unplugged it 10-15 times. After a while, Windows stopped seeing it. At this point I decided to remove the casing around the two 500gb drives, and use them independently, thinking maybe it was the box setup. The first HD(We will call it HDB), works great. All I had to do was remove the partition, create a new one, and format it. HDA on the other hand, isn't cooperating. When I go into disk manager, it shows Disk1 as being there, and shows the size of the drive. It also says it isnt initialized. I click initialize, and it immediately gives me an error saying something about the LDM. The catch is, sometimes it WILL initialize when I tell it to. At that point, I tell it to delete the partition. Then it gives me this error:
Product: Windows Operating System
ID: 51
Source: Disk
Version: 5.0
Symbolic Name: IO_WARNING_PAGING_FAILURE
Message: An error was detected on device %1 during a paging operation.
Explanation
An input/output (I/O) request to a memory-mapped file failed and the operation was retried.
At this point I run WD's diagnostic tool, and it tells me there is an error when I run the diagnostic. Again, the catch: Sometimes it WILL read the disk, and as of right now, is doing a 4 hour detailed diagnostic. It passed the quick diagnostic with no errors. I tried using the diagnostic tool to write zero's to the drive, but it tells me a sector couldn't be zeroed, and stops writing zero's. Should I let the 4 hour scan finish, or am I beating a dead horse?
