The scanner was working fine before I installed the vista updates. What do you mean when you asked whether I performed a system restore? (I mentioned I wasn't tech savvy). I did uninstall the scanner via control panel and then downloaded the current driver from epson's website. Is that what you mean?

I uninstalled the driver for the scanner and reinstalled the new driver after the updates were installed.
