Canada

Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).

What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?

Up to 5MB down, not sure what the upstream is.

Make and exact model of the broadband modem.

SpeedStream 5200

Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).

Bypassed router, went directly into modem - same issue - currently I am connected thru an HP ProCurve 10/100 24 port hub

Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)

none

Make and model of your computer.

Clone - I built it - no issues until new hdd and fresh install of XP Pro - SP2

Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.

The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

No error messages. I leave this computer on and connected all the time. Sometimes after an hour my connection hangs. Sometimes it takes two days to hang. To all intents and purposes it appears as though I am connected. It is not. The only indication that I've hung, except for the fact that I can't browse or recieve email is that when you try to look at the connection properties - the properties window pops up very quickly, then disappears. Left clicking mouse over the connection ICON and clicking disconnect does nothing. The only way I can get this connection restarted is to boot the computer.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

No wireless.

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

No other computers on the network at the moment.

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
Again - this problem only started after a new hdd and a fresh install of XP Pro SP2 was put on. Up until then it worked perfectly and I never had this problem.

I suspect an XP issue - but what - I ain't got a clue.

Thanks a lot.
