In some cases, there are 2 LEDs on a network adapter - depending on color/status these LEDs can indicate LINK STATUS, LINK SPEED and/or activity. If you're plugging your NIC into a router, hub, switch or broadband modem and NON of the LEDs are lighting up - then you've got a problem with the physical connection (cable, connectors, etc) or there's a problem with the NICs hardware or drivers.
