Very Slow IE Initial Home Page Connection
My problem is very slow (compared to a week ago) initial connection to internet home page). When I click on IE, the screen jumps to start up but just hangs and the "blue task bar" has only about 1mm of blue infill in it. It then just sits there but if I put the mouse cursor over it and continuously right click - the task bar gradually fill about 10mm at a time and the home page finally comes up. Once the home page is up, I can jump from one site to another without any delays and all works fine. If an internet site has a link to another site, if I try to use that (I.e. requiring that I open a new IE connection) then the problem is the same - long delay before the link comes up and activates.
Similarly, every time I attempt to open a new internet connection, there are long delays before the home page comes up and activates, but once activated I can jump to other sites from that home page connection without any problems - so the issue is the initial connection. (NB I have tried changing home pages but that made no difference to initial connection delays)
I have the original Win 2000 CD that came with the computer, would it be worth a try to reload Win 2000? I haven't done that as I am scared that doing that might corrupt my other application software
I mentioned my problem to one of my "computer-techie" friends - he suggested that it sounded like a "registry problem" (whatever that is) and that messing with that was way out of my skills level!!
Anybody out there who has had and fixed this kind of problem:
