Re: Please Help, blue screen probs!

Hi. . .

I received your PM and responded, but I believe you logged off before receiving it.

You mentioned that only 2 mini-dump files were sent because of a re-format and re-install of Vista. Their names are Mini041508-01.dmp and Mini041508-02.dmp. This, coupled with information in your Belarc report, leaves me with additional questions:

1. Your original post indicates (to me) that there were 6 BSODs on April 15, 2008 alone - based on the filename of "Mini041508-06[.dmp]. A re-format and re-install of Vista back to the default Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) factory settings would wipe out the Minidump folder - so the counter on the memory dumps would start with "01". The dumps that you sent me are in fact numbered 01 and 02. So... where did the information in your original post come from? My guess is that it was before the re-install of the OS.

2. Speaking of the OS - I see that you have an OEM version of Windows Vista Ultimate installed - which is fine. However, the Vista "hidden" Administrator account shows it was originally activated on November 2, 2006. This almost looks to me to be an XP upgrade to Vista. I know that Vista came out publicly in January 2007, but OEM's did have it prior to that. When did you buy your system?

3. As I said in #2 - you have Vista Ultimate - build 6000. This means that it has not been upgraded with Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) yet. You also are missing 24 Vista Windows Updates - in fact you have no Windows Updates installed on your system at all - at least based on the information that I have access to. Pre-Vista SP1 should have over 70 Windows Updates available to be installed (including Windows Defender, Internet Explorer 7, etc...). Why Belarc is showing only 24 missing - when none are listed as installed - is a mystery to me right now. Please check your Windows Updates via the Control Panel and let me know if there are any available to you. Your setting may be on "manual" instead of "automatic".

Regards. . .
