Mistake hardware freeze

ok, so here's my problem:

i've got a hp pavilion dv4000 notebook, and it freezes up completely unless you apply hard pressure directly to the left of the mousepad. all processes simply stop when it freezes up and the monitor seems to just pause on whatever it was displaying last.

when you press hard next to the mousepad the machine resumes whatever it was doing before, right where it left off. you can leave it frozen for hours and when you come back and apply pressure it'll unfreeze immeadiately, without showing any signs of becoming bogged down.

sometimes i've had it unfreeze on changing the monitor angle, or pressing on random spots around the comp, but mainly it's pressure to the left of the mousepad that does the trick.

another wierd thing is it never freezes when you first start it up, only when it begins booting/loading xp.

it seems like it's some loose hardware, maybe the ram or something, but i really have no idea... any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
