Secondary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable installed (Different from [CLOSED] thread

Hi everyone,

I saw that someone had a similiar error message as me, and the problem was resolved. Unfortunately, I am still receiving errors.

I am running winxp sp2 and have two hard drives. They have run perfectly fine for around 4 years. Recently, I noticed that a case fan was dead, so I replaced the fan and took out an old floppy drive. Upon plugging everything back in, I found that my boot process would freeze on "Detecting IDE drives". When I disconnected the secondary IDE, I could get into windows, but the computer runs 50% slower and the audio crackles whenever files are opened.

Next, I opened up the case again and saw that my old IDE cable was a bit frayed in spots, so I decided to replace it with an ATA133 dual device cable.

Now, I can still only boot into Windows when only the primary IDE is hooked up, but when I use the secondary HD I get the error message in the thread subject.

I originally thought that maybe the secondary drive died, but why would the first HD act up as well. Is there a setting I can fix? It's frustrating when both hard drives worked for years.
