My System

IDE drive onto SATA mobo

I am planning to replace my son's system - he's currently running an old HP that only has IDE connections for his HD. The new system will only have SATA (unless I want to share the CD/DVD and his old IDE HD which I've read is not really a good idea)
What I am trying to avoid is having to reload all his software - much of which is freeware/shareware that he has not kept the download files for
He has the disks for all his major software but still takes time etc.

My question:
Can you get SATA to IDE adapters? and are they any good? (oops 2 questions in one) If they are any good I could use the old IDE drive as a system drive and the new drive as a storage drive
