I thank you for the ability to post my problem here and ask that you close my thread now. Tis a moot point.

After a wee bit of scotch sipping and web surfing, I decided my computer, which I built in 2003, should be put out of its obvious misery. So I've brought home a new motherboard, cpu and RAM and will rebuild a new one to accompany my less-than-a-year-old hard drive and dvd writers.

If I get deep into my cups tonight, I just might convert the old motherboard into a wall clock...
