I'm connected via router to a cable modem.
My computer does not detect any problems with the connection, but each time I try to use Internet Explorer, it takes so long to attempt to load the page, I think it times out.

I've been able to use filesharing software like LimeWire, but the download rate is maybe 1/10th what it's supposed to be on this type of connection.

I've occasionally been able to use Yahoo Instant Messenger, but it's rare, and attempting to use Windows Live Messenger results in the same problem as Internet Explorer.

Checking the status of the connection shows that I'm connected, but the sending and recieving rates are minimal.


Can anyone explain what the problem might be?
