More to the point, most of the artists and most of the people who buy music just aren't very political. I think we've been through a good many years lately when lots of people just weren't involved in the process.
In a perverse way, one of the comforting things about corporate greed is that it is generally as apolitical as it is amoral. If we had the same degree of political activism now that we had during the war in Vietnam, you can bet that the major labels would be lined up looking for that next protest singer singing a protest song.
