Re: LAN with Linksys WRT54G V8

You will need to enable "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" in the network device properties inside Windows XP.

To enable File and Printer Sharing, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network Connections (classic view), or Network and Internet Connections to Network Connections (category view). In Network Connections, right-click the "Wireless Network Connection" and click Properties. In Wireless Network Connection Properties, under "This connection uses the following items:", check and see if File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is listed and has a checked checkbox. If it isn't checked, check it and press OK. If it isn't even listed, press Install... -> Service -> highlight "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks" and press OK twice. You may be asked to reboot the PC, if so reboot.

If you are using Windows Firewall you will also need to make sure an exception is set to allow the sharing traffic through. To do this, go to Start -> Control Panel -> Windows Firewall (classic view), or Network and Internet Connections to Windows Firewall (category view) -> Exceptions tab -> check the checkbox for "File and Print Sharing", and press OK.
