Router problem.
Okay, today me and my brother wanted to put the Wii and the nintendo DS Online. but when i first configured my router settings, i gave it a password, which disabled them from connecting to the internet. (im guessing)
So I reinstalled my router (belkin54g, from a CD) and put no security. but suddenly my little brothers laptop(most important part of the connection) wouldn't connect to it, it said there was an error with the settings, so i reinstalled it AGAIN, but before doing so, i had my brother disconnect himself from my connection (SSID: belkin54g), then i installed it without a password again, and it didn't work. (the Wii and DS were able to be online, as well as my computer still, just not the laptop) then i googled my issue and read through a forum thread(this forum) it was about some guy having an issue or something with his belkin router, someone mentioned typing some sort of IP address into the address bar, so i did, and changed a few settings around. all i did was turn on my router so it was an access point (it was set to the usual "off" or default "No") then as soon as i did that, it said restarting router in 25--then it finally got to 0. then when it got to 0. firefox refreshed the page and it gave me an error, i tryed to go back to that page but it wouldnt let me. now when i try to reinstall the wireless network from the belkin CD it gives me some sort of hardware failure saying that i plugged the cords in wrong(which i didnt, i made sure.) and then i pressed retry, and it still gave me the same error. the router is still being able to be connected to(I looked on the laptop, and my connection is still available, but when he trys to connect to it, it says connected---Identifying, then it shows an error sign(exclamation mark) and then hes unable to connect to the internet.) Now everytime i try to reinstall the CD it gives me the error, and i want to make calling belkin support my last and final option because i just know its going to be some belkin hotline located in some other country with people who can barely speak english.(no offense)
This computer is the only thing connecting to the internet now.
I run Windows XP Professional using Comcast internet with a pretty old motorola/SURFBoard router(SB4200 SURFBoard Cable modem) and a Belkin54g-2.4Ghz-802.11g Router.
I used the same settings and plugged everything in the same way i did when i first installed this modem/router (and it worked, obviously)
I just had to let my curiosity get the better of me :/
Also if there is a way to look at all of my wireless network saved settings somebody let me know because im pretty sure ive accumulated a ton of settings/networks that are just the same network over and over again only with and without passwords.
I mightve forgot more. but if you need anymore information, let me know. ill check back on this thread FREQUENTLY.
