Adobe Premiere Pro Problems

Hey, well I decided I wanted to make videos for gameplay on games, I got my footage and stuff. I then got Premiere Pro 2 as I heard it was good for proffesional videos, I used windows movie maker before but it wasn't the greatest :P. Anyway so I load up my footage on it, however if I move through the video or do something it just crashes... blanks out or restarts my computer. This is really irritating as I cannot get anythnig done, I occasionally get a blue screen error saying something about atidv.. cant remember the rest .ddl . I would sometimes get a VPU recover message? Or that my card isnt responding.

I have a HD ATi Radeon 2400 pro graphics card and a Quad core processor. Anyone know how to resolve this? I'd be very grateful and Ive looked everywhere.

Also if anyone knows how to cut bits out of a video on it? I mean it always says just do a rough cut... maybe if I was told how to do one that might help. I mean its so complex.. why can't you just select a part of the video on the timeline and hit delete :/.
