First of all DO NOT plug the drive in while the computer is running unless you like replacing hardware that was not broken before you did this. That is a dangerous operation and can cause things to burn up.

Second, when you say you have sata drivers installed in XP, what exactly do you mean by that.

Questions:

Have you enabled Sata in the bios?

Did you slipstream the Sata drivers on an OS disk?

When you were ready to install windows, did you download the Sata drivers on a floppy for the F6 prompt?

Does the drive have anything on it?

Has it been formatted before?

We need to know what motherboard. Does your board support Sata1 only or Sata2?

Is your new drive a Sata2 drive or a Sata1 drive?

These things should assist us to know more about your situation. Post back and let us look at these issues.
