Seagate Freeagent

I am a new member here so please forgive my ignorance if I make any mistakes. I recently purchased a Seagate Freeagent external Hard drive 320 gig and it seemed to be working fine. I proceeded to transfer some files(movies) over to it and everything was going smoothly. During one of the transfers I got myself a i/o error. My system shows it is connected to my computer but when I go to My Computer it ISNT listed. Like it is not formatted or something.

Reason I say not formatted cause when I first got it it was formatted as FAT32 and set to 116gig. So I called the store up I bought it at and they walked me through deleting the partitions. While doing so it failed to appear as well and I had to take it in to get reformatted.

I am at a loss as to why transferring files can cause this to happen if indeed it is in need of being reformatted yet again after getting it back only 3 hrs ago.
