Cool Re: 3B Registry Repair Pro and spybot search & destroy

The theory behind a Registry Cleaner is that your registry will eventually get bloated with old, out of date, or erroneous entries.
A registry that's BLOATED will impact system performance since the registry is one thing that must load into RAM memory during the boot up process.

For Instance: Can you imagine what size your phone book would be, if the phone company did not remove old and out of date entries, like for people who have died, moved away or changed their phone number?
After just a few years, you'd need a fork lift to even move it.
Thank God and Ma-Bell that we get a new and revised phone book every year. I still put my lifting belt on, before picking mine up.

After removing (DE-Installing) Office 2007, one day, I ran my own favorite registry cleaner (Easy Cleaner) and then ran my registry compression program, NTREGOPT, and reduced the size of my registry by about 30 megabytes.

I understand those who have had bad experiences with so-called Registry Cleaners and are reluctant to advise anyone else to use one.

Many registry cleaners range from redundant (useless) to right down destructive, and yes many are Trojans.
Been there done that, and yes I've even paid good money in years past for registry cleaners that really wet the bed.

Spybot can and will flag some programs as BAD that really are NOT bad at all but can alter the registry in their normal operation.
My own install of Spybot S&D (1.5.2rc1) flagged my "Spyware Hunter" program as bad. (I've used "Spyware Hunter" to clean up PC's so badly infected that it would seem that a complete FORMAT would be the only fix.)
It was a very simple thing to go into "Ignore Products" and put that program on the "Ignore" list.
You must be running Spybot in "Advanced" mode to make such changes.
Many people NEVER go through the SETUP procedure with Spybot and then complain that it doesn't work properly.

Spybot S&D is a pretty technical program and DOES require proper setup for it to ever run correctly.
So much so, that I printed up a full page of setup instructions for it and posted it on my website.

Anyway, you'll probably be just as well off NOT having that registry cleaner. It's one I've never heard of, so I can't comment on its usefulness, effectiveness or safeness.

"Yes Regis, that's my final answer!"

Cheers Mates!
