I occasionally have my 80GB external harddrive with 3 partitions, but the ability to remove the C: drive and my other unpartitioned harddrive is always there, it does not matter if my external is plugged in or not. If my external is plugged in then I am able to remove those 3 partitions as well as the other 2 hard drives.
