Major issues with a Pavillion dv6000. Help. Please.
O.k. heres the whole thing:
My friend bought a new laptop through bell (for whatever reason) and he got it this past september, and it's been plagued with issues. I highly doubt it was from hp directly because it didnt have a recovery partition.
- when he first got it, vista wasnt installed right. so he had to send it back.
- when he got it back, he couldnt log in and stay logged in (the only account was the admin one), and after about two mins it would log him out and shut down. another of his friends went real quickly and made him and acount, but it didnt have all the admin privilages.
- not to mention it registered as having a 25 gig harddrive. when i found out i went into disk management, and 125 gigs was unallocated! so i went and formated it.
- couple months later, something happened (dont know what exactly), and windows started having issues as well. almost all icons would display as the unknown default icon, disk management said that the second larger partition was unallocated and even after i formated it again, it would still stay the same, and i couldnt get into the control account (the page would be blank with a "the page cannot be displayed" message), or allow programs to run or install because the UAC was on, but wouldnt fully load.
- a couple days ago, i got his permision to delete everything, remove the partition, and do a fresh install of windows. before i was going to do this, i went and coppied all of his important files and driver installers to usb key (the only thing to go right). i left to do something, and closed the lid (which is setup to do nothing). when i came back, i didnt think of much. it asked me to login. i put in the password, hit enter, and was greeted with
THE FLIPPIN BSoD!!!
I couldnt make out the error code, but restarted the thing.
it wouldnt boot.
tried a few more times, no luck. went into the bios to do a harddrive check, and it said the harddrive wasnt there, meanwhile its still in. i know that if it crashed, it isnt the only problem because the harddrive would register, but fail the test.
soooooo,
what can i do.
id like to at least get it running using the harddrive (ive booted it up by using an ubuntu live cd, and booting it into the ram).
and if not, what can be done. there is the warrenty that still covers it but it would take too long to send it in, and it would be better to get an entirely new laptop, but for how long my friend has had it, he probably cant get a refund or exchanged.
please, help me here.
